Most fun I've had drawing in a while, and while I drew it I had all these fun ideas too. To save time I'm gonna copy/paste some stuff from an IM.
I figured it's like a planet of different clans for whatever part of the world that they're on, the lizard..alien.. thingies, this one's a miner! she wears the gems that she both mined out and set herself into her jewelery. The long limbs and skinny frame let her bend into tight spots and her hands/feet and claws have like evolved to be perfect-like claspers for prying/carving out the rocks without harming the gems. Rings on the tail are family bands that show what family she belongs to by color and their rank (less colors/number of rings the more pure the blood, a new ring of a different color added and carried on the child born from a different blooded pairing) I figure like, those on the more forested side of the planet are the hunters and evolved to like.. hunt. So they'd wear the fur/teeth/whatever from the favored kills and be different shaped. Same with like, fishers, or farmers, weavers..
Now, to talk about this dearie here; I don't have a name for her. D: she's a young adult, fairly high on the rank ladder (1-2 rings are considered royalty, there's 4 primary families, 3-4 rings being the prince/princesses that would likely never see the throne.) 5-6 rings would be considered to be governors/whathaveyou with 7-8 rings being the merchant classes and 9-10 rings being the common families. No rings are those that are shunned/ignored aka, street trash/beggers and criminals.
The gems are currency in the region that the Carvers live in, not EVERYONE can mine in the family caves but this one has free roam, but mostly she hunts for favored gems that she sets into her jewelry, the bare bands and rings being what she plans to set future finds into. All of the carvers love their gems and jewelry, the gaudier the better, wearing their wealth is almost a favored past time and I COULD of done worse, this lady here is just barely wearing what she considers the 'minimum' of bling.
obviously I had a blast drawing this thing.. just.. ignore the finger on the side c_c I wanted to think through how the claw worked, it's weird but neat. The head on the right is the same gal, just.. riled. Her face/forehead might seem weird but with the head being mostly... mouth.. it would be weird whenever she opened it, her 'hair' is quill/spike-like that stiffens with threat displays/whatevers. Back facing teeth for ripping/tearing and slightly folding. Long tongue for snatching at fruit/small things to scurry or hell even has a use for when dragged over rocks to find veins that might lead to a big gem find. Also, the left hand might seem weird 'cause I was playing with the idea that they could fold their fingers about their hands like that when in 'repose' or a show of politeness. I thought it worked, at least.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This contest ends on Friday the 18th December 2009. If you want to enter, get your entries in quick! Here are all the entries so far. Also if you want to donate a prize, that would be fantastic too, just note me
